An EWS certificate is an income and asset certificate issued to the citizens belonging to the economically weaker sections of the society (EWS category under General category). It is a new kind of reservation that falls under the General category. The certificate is provided to those candidates who belong to the economically weaker section of society. This category is separated from other backward classes or SC and ST categories. Candidates under EWS category are not eligible for the reservation schemes under SC, ST, and OBC category

How to apply for EWS certificate:

The application for the issue of an EWS certificate can be submitted online or offline. It totally depends upon the state government. For offline application, you can visit the BCW department(BDO OFFICE) or the issuing authority’s office in your region and get the application form or download it online

Here is the list of documents required for EWS certificate:

  1. Passport Size Photograph
  2. EWS Certificate Application Form
  3. Ration Card/ Epic Card/ Aadhaar Card
  4. ID Proof (Voter ID, PAN Card, etc)
  5. Affidavit or Self Declaration
  6. Income Certificate
  7. Residential Proof
